What is an abdominal ultrasound?
Examination performed to identify abnormalities in the abdomen, which uses high-frequency sound waves to visualize the internal organs located in the abdomen such as the liver, gallbladder, pancreas, spleen, kidneys, uterus, ovary and bladder.
When do you need a breast ultrasound?
Useful for looking at some breast changes, such as those that can be felt but not seen on a mammogram.
It also works to detect changes in women with dense breast tissue. It can even be used to see a problem that was detected on a mammogram or physical exam.
How is an ultrasound of the liver and bile ducts performed?
With the patient lying face up on an examination table. In some cases, the patient will be asked to lie on one of their sides.
Generally, there is no discomfort, however, in certain cases the pressure applied with the transducer may cause slight pain, especially when it comes into contact with sensitive areas.
